National Ledger Article & Other News
In this interview Kris talks about Adam, the tour, and the Paula contract crisis.
The "American Idol" summer tour hits Little Rock Saturday (7/25) -- which means a homecoming for Kris Allen, the Conway, Ark.-born winner of Season 8. He tells us he's really looking forward to the concert where friends and family are bound to turn out. The winner covers all bases, talking about his wife Katy, spilling details on his friendship with runner-up Adam Lambert and even touches on the the Paula Abdul contract.
Allen says he talks every day to his wife of 10 months, Katy, who's stayed home "working and doing her thing" while he's out dealing with the rigors and rewards of the immensely popular 50-city concert trek. "She actually came out for a couple of shows," he says. "I mean, of course you're going to miss the person you're with. It's tough, but it's also -- I'm having a great time out here."
Having endured sleepless nights, especially when the tour was just starting, he's glad to be getting into a rhythm that allows him to get some rest. He's getting used to the tidal wave of fan attention, he says. And the media.
You may recall the competition between Allen and first runner up Adam Lambert was described by The New York Times in Pat Boone vs. Elvis terms. Kris continues to be viewed as the boy-next-door singer/songwriter who's traipsed around the world doing missionary work, while Adam's the guyliner and leather-sporting rocker who came out as gay in Rolling Stone. Earlier this month, a small, fundamentalist church-affiliated group did an anti-gay demonstration outside one of the "A.I." concerts. The idols -- all 10 finalists of the past season are on the tour -- said later they weren't going to let it bother them. Does Kris feel any pressure to be a role model of one sort or another, as the Christian guy who's pals with the gay guy? "No," he answers flatly. "What would I have to be pressured about? I'm just trying to be me. If people don't want me to be friends with Adam, that's their problem, not mine. Adam's an amazing person, and I'm so happy to call him one of my really good friends."
Meanwhile, Kris is squeezing in time to write songs for his major label debut album, which is slated for a fall release by Jive Records. "I haven't done so much co-writing in my life. That's a little bit different for me. It's going real well," he says. "The multitalented musician adds, "It will have a sound that will be a surprise to people, but I think a really good surprise."
ALSO: As far as whether the contractless Paula Abdul will or won't return to the show, Kris says, "I don't know too much about that. I know some of the other idols know a little bit more than I do, talking to her, but I . I'm trying to . I'm just glad it's not anything bad about me," he admits. He laughs. "That's always a plus."

Portland Opening Day Tour Stuff!!
Just so you know, last night LIl Rounds "Put A Ring On It" Lol! As I had that early in the competition as her contestant's choice pick, Unfortunately she didn't make it that far. But with that out of the the way, the LA times wrote a review of the show and called it "better", "cooler" and more contemporary.
Megan Joy's set showed her soulful, bluesy side, often eclipsed during the season taking up Amy Winehouse's "Tears Dry on Their Own." (Brian Mansfield has the complete set list here.) Scott MacIntyre was looser and more engaging than he had ever seemed on the Idol stage, opening his set with a very strong version of Keane's "Bend and Break."
Whatever doubting Lil Rounds' struggles may have aroused during the season were entirely put to rest tonight by a fantastically fun set culminating with Beyonce's "Put a Ring On It."
Kris Allen comes to the stage facing a bundle full of questions - namely, could his soft-spoken, low key style stand up as the headline act of an arena show? To all appearances, it could, handily. The show very astutely didn't try to make Kris top Adam in volume, but stripped down the production for his numbers to a minimalist, intimate feel through which his strong vocals on "Heartless" and others did manage to turn the stadium into a little theater or nightclub, a feeling his set kept coming back to until the crowd-pleasing singalong finale of "Hey Jude." In the end, one can't but feel that Kris' is the right note for the concert to end in, that of all the Idol's his likable, sweet style delivered the feel-good close that had the departing crowds still humming with good will towards mankind.

E! Tour Article
E! Online posted an article today and talks to the idols about the upcoming tour!
"The guys' tour bus is overcrowded. There's only one bus for the boys and there are seven of us, and no, Adam and Kris don't get their own bus," Scott MacIntyre told us when we caught up with them at rehearsals last week. Before you think he's a squeaky wheel, all six of the other guys echoed that sentiment. Michael Sarver said, "I'm not gonna lie. I just wish it was part of the budget to have a third bus. It's like the testosterone tour this year. No one is looking forward to the cramped boys' bus."
Kris Allen: "Because I go last, I have nothing to do until later, but I'm so weird I'll probably be watching from the wings anyway. I'm doing some songs from the show. I can say one: 'Hey Jude' by the Beatles. It's gonna be huge. I do five songs."
Allison Iraheta: "I'm doing three songs. One is one from the show, [Janis Joplin's] 'Cry Baby.' I really enjoyed doing that one so much. My set is rock. I'm gonna be sweating. After rehearsal the other day, Kris gave me a hug and he was like, 'ewww.' My shirt was soaked in sweat. It was funny. So, yeah, I'll be the sweaty one on tour."

Kradam Collaboration in the Works?
According to an E! Online interview, when asked of possibly recording a song together, Kris and Adam say that it could happen!
"It could happen," Adam told E's Mark Malkin Friday during an exclusive sit-down with him and Kris. "Maybe we'll write a song on the road."
More Excerpts:
No surprise that the American Idol winner and runner-up have become as tight as any two best friends could be. So just how close are they?
They both laugh when I ask Allen if Lambert is his "closest gay."
"As much time as we spend together, I would probably say so," Allen said.
And it works both ways. "He's definitely becoming my closest straight," Lambert said. "That's something I am trying to get across—that it doesn't frickin' matter. Just like when people were dealing with race relations. The moment we started getting over it as a society was the moment we stopped paying attention to the differences and paid attention to the similarities."
He continued, "People get so scared and uncomfortable with the ways in which they are different. I think it's a testament to Kris that he's completely comfortable in his own skin, comfortable with his sexuality. He's a straight man, he's married and it's not threatening for him to be friends with a gay guy."
"I do not have a boyfriend," he said when I ask about the much-speculated-about relationship he has with interior designer and artist Drake LaBry. "I know everybody wants to know, but that is the one area that I kind of want to keep out of the press: my personal love life, especially out of respect to the other person."
But then, a few minutes later, Lambert looked at me and said, "OK, let me set the record straight with you on the boyfriend thing—Yes, Drake and I are dating. You can say that."
